New gazebo's progress

Take a moment out to see Avon's new Gazebo being built on the city park land at the southwest corner of Stoney Ridge and Detroit roads. It is a project of the French Creek Development Association and the city Parks and Recreation Department.

VFW Post will hold meeting

The Avon VFW Post 7035 will meet tonight at 8 p.m. in the Post Home, 36950 Mills Road. Plans are underway for the annual Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 31, starting at 9 a.m. behind the Avon Police Station to Avon Cemetery at the intersection of Detroit Road and SR 83.

Baby-sitter's workshop offered

A baby-sitter's workshop will be held for 10-year-olds and up on Saturdays, June 19 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. The two sessions will teach how to care for young children, provide information on accident prevention, help the sitter select games and much more. To register, stop in at the library, 37485 Harvest Drive. A $10 fee is required. For additional information, call 934-4743.

Veterans council will meet

The Lorain County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at Avon VFW Post 7035 on Tuesday, June 8 at 8 p.m. All VFW members are invited to attend.

Autumn Rebels planning trip

Autumn Rebels will meet on Tuesday, June 8th at noon in The Barn at 37111 Detroit Road. The program will be a park trip. Bring $1 for bird seed. Buy your own lunch. Reservations should be made with Sis Wernert at 934-4445 three days before the meeting. All adults 50 and over are welcome.

Adult book group will meet

Adult Evening Book Discussion will be held on next Wednesday, at 7 p.m. in the Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive. The book under study is ''Lindbergh: A Biography.''
