Schools closed tomorrow
In recognition of NEOTA Day tomorrow, all Avon schools will be closed.
Investment Club to meet
The Avon Investment Club will meet at the Avon Branch Library Monday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Guests are welcome.
Business ownership talk
People thinking of starting their own businesses are encouraged to sign up for a program, ''I Want To Be My Own Boss: Starting a Small Business.'' The program will be at the Avon Branch Library Wednesday, Nov. 8 and Thursdays, Nov. 16, 30 and Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Information including the start-up, financing, hiring and more will be shared. The program is free, but registration is required by calling the library at 934-4743.
Luncheon card party
The St. Mary Church Altar and Rosary Society will sponsor a fall luncheon card party on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at noon at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road. The menu will include pork chops and trimmings. Admission is $7. Reservations can be made by calling 934-5722 or 934-6639.
Friends' membership drive
Friends of the Avon Library is holding its membership drive and encouraging library visitors to become members of the local group. Memberships range from family, $5; single, $3, and corporate, $25. Visitors are also encouraged to stop at the Friends' table and guess how many candies are in the jar. All correct answers will be entered into a drawing, and one person will win the ''sweet-tooth'' delights.
Get your flu shot
Flu shots will be available by the Adult Health Clinic in The Barn of the Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Road, Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Genealogy Group meeting
The Genealogy Group will meet at the Avon Branch Library at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

Avon East and Avon Village Elementary:
-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hash browns, orange juice
-- Friday: No school
-- Monday: Chicken patty on bun, tater tots, diced pears
-- Tuesday: Cheese dippers with Italian dipping sauce, seasoned green beans, banana, peanut butter cookie
-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, tossed salad, fruit cup
-- Thursday: Grilled cheese, tomato soup with croutons, pickle slices, raspberry sherbet
Avon Middle and High schools:
-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hash browns, orange juice
