On Faragher Family group sheet. (author unknown) it states that Theron was a cousin of, and about the same age as, the famed and controversial Indian scout Kit Carson (1809-1868) and alwys followed his career with a keen interest though his wife and daughters thoroughly disapproved of Carson's lifestyle, Indian wife, etc. Great Grandmother Faragher would acknowledge the relationship only grudgingly becuase of what she considered to be his "bad end".

Theron was an indifferent farmer, but an avid sportsman, Theron spent much time on the lakes and had gone as far as Detroit on an intended deer hunt in MI when he was taken ill, turned about to return home, and succumbed to a heart attack on the vessel of his son Captain Menzies Moore. Family tradition has always held that Theron's footloose and fancy free predileciton for hunting and fishing would be inherited by his descendants at " The Curse of Theron Moore".

In the custom of the times Elmina Moore Gawn and her husband Thomas took in her three year old son Harry Birchard Faragher and the fourteen years old daughter Delia Ann Faragher to raise as their own. Thomas gawn owned an enormous farm at the time, bordered by the Black River to the west and south, and extending east along the lake to Delaware (then Gawn) Ave. Thomas donated the land on which stands the Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church. Though never legally adopted, Harry assumed the Gawn name and never returned home.

Notes for AMELIA CATHERINE MOORE:

Following the violent death of her husband she did what she had to do and picked up the pieces of her shattered life with the help of one hired man and his wife, and her sons, she continued the successful operation of the farm, and expanded upon it.

She built summer cotages and rented them, and rooms in her home, to summer vacationers from Cleveland who spent their leisure time swimming in the lake, relaxing on the wide sand beach, and enjoying her superior cuisine.

When the railroad came through, and later the eletric interurban, easements were granted contigent upon passenger stops at her home, and "Faragher's Landing" at the Faragher Lane became an established spot until Stop 1-2 on the Lake Shore Electric preempted.

In 1900 she built a dance hall and bathhouse on the lake front, installed picnic and playground equipment, nameing it appropriately "Century Park". It became one of the most popular resort spots along the lake. It was later acquired by the City of Lorain for a public bathing beach and the dancehall leased until it was destroyed by fire in 1922.

She kept the house immaculate, cooked the meals, attended to the personal needs of those living with her and prepared and presided over the ritualistic morning tea. These morning teas were an institution which she inaugurated, and which persisted for over 70 years.

It had been the custom in the early farming community for the men to rise before dawn, complete their chores, and then be in the fields at the first light of dawn to take advantage of every possible moment in their struggle for survival.

They would return home, summoned by the farm bell, about 10 AM for breakfast and a short break (with the difference that green tea was served instead of coffee) on gleaming white linen, with sterling silver service.

After her active farming days were over, the function gradually evolved into a daily meeting of the women of the family and neighborhood, daily, rain or shine, except Sunday, tea and cookies or petite sandiwches, until the day of her death.
