A Good, Long Ash
A fine, hand-rolled, imported cigar, a rocking chair on the Front Porch, a guitar, a shot of Jack Daniels, good company, and the time to enjoy all five together. That's what I call Front Porch R-and-R
A good wrapper shows its veins and provides an overlay of subtle flavor, not only in the smoke, but to the lips, as well. I'm a natural wrap kind-of-guy, but my brother likes maduro. He likes the nut-like flavor; I'm a little more subdued.
A good binder is often under appreciated. I'm convinced that "tar bite" comes from an inferior binder. Tar bite is that bitter taste that sometimes comes out after a cigar is smoked about half-way down. A good binder helps to keep the ash long, also.
A good filler is really what it's all about. Small matter how the tobacco was seeded or grown, or where. Small matter how it was fermented. How the torcedore started rolling the leaves when he/she first began constructing the cigar is the heart of the matter.
My favorites are Arturo Fuentes (Curly Heads if you can find them), and Casa de Nicaraugas. But the best cigars, no matter what the brand name, are the ones smoked on the Front Porch, in a rocking chair, with a guitar and shot of Jack Daniels near-by, in the presence of good company.
When I grow up, I think that I'd like to be a reader in a cigar gallery.
