Popular Repeaters and Simplex Freq's used by Vashon Hams
Events and Meetings
April 20th Radio Club Meeting 7:00 PM - Presbyterian Church (across from the movie theater) Desserts-Only Pot Luck Please consider yourselves invited to the April 20th Radio Club meeting (Tab, Polly, Jim, and Ed have ham licenses!) to meet the members of the Radio Club. The hams will be working along side of you in an emergency, so it's a good idea for the two groups to get to know each other. The theme of the meeting is "Know Your Radio" and should be of interest to non-ham communications volunteers learning about radios.
May 29th - Western
Washington Communications Exercise (There may be a date change, since this is
a holiday weekend) There
is an ongoing series of emergency communications (or
"emcomm") exercises organized from the WA state EOC
(Emergency Operations Center) at Camp Murray. This is
an exercise to test communications capability around Western WA
between the various EOCs - we have an EOC ham station here on
Vashon at the Fire Department. Along with the EOC-to-EOC
tests, we will also be conducting a Vashon-only test involving
the ham club. I am going to add the VDPC communications
volunteers to the test, alongside the hams. This will be an
opportunity to practice using radios. You'll also learn how
the hams communicate and I think it will be an excellent
experience for both groups. May 29th Exercise Notice from Ed Leavitt KA7UKN
(Ed is the station manager for the
Camp Murray EOC) The
RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) team at the
Washington State EOC is starting a series of
EOC-to-EOC communications exercises. Exercises will take
place on a
quarterly basis on the fifth Saturday of the month (Jan 31, May
29, July
31, Oct 30, .).
The first few exercises will stress exploring voice and data
connectivity
between participating EOCs. Subsequent exercises will
gradually shift
emphasis toward traffic handling. A poll was taken of
likely
participants in November. Poll results favored Saturday
exercises,
limited to two or three hours in length.
All EOCs located within or adjacent to Washington State are
invited to
participate, including regional, county, city, medical, and
disaster
relief agencies. Initially the exercises will
start at 9:00 AM local
time. EOCs with HF radio capabilities should check into the
WSEN net
(3.985 MHz LSB primary / 7.245 MHz LSB alternate) at the
beginning of
their net. A special call will be made for EOCs
participating in the
exercise. Following that check in, EOCs will be excused and
asked to
move to 3.980 or 3.975 (depending on band usage) to begin the
exercise.
Since the majority of radio assets at Camp Murray will be
changing
frequencies somewhat unpredictably to accomplish the desired
checks, HF
radio will be the primary means of coordination. EOCs
that lack HF
capabilities can contact the Camp Murray exercise team
telephonically
(253 512-7099) or via a 6 Meter repeater (to be announced) to
coordinate
the checks.
EOCs planning to participate are encouraged to pre register for
the
exercise by filling out and submitting an informational form
listing
their capabilities, and the bands and/or repeater systems they
wish to
"test". While pre registration is optional, it is
highly encouraged and
will expedite entry into the exercise.
Communications modes will include HF voice & data, 6 meter
voice, 2 meter
voice & data, 2 meter APRS messaging, and 220 & 440 MHz
voice.
Detailed coordinating instructions, and any updates will be
posted mid
January on http://www.wastateares.org .
