The Silly New Land Rover Military Spare Tyre Tie-Down Strap
This is how the Military Spare Tyre Tie-Down Strap Buckle USED TO work:
This is how the new ones ($57.50 USD from Rovers North Part # RNC104) are (mis)assembled:
Here's a drawing I made to communicate the pattern of the buckle:

This is a load strap purchased by Talbot which has the same silly buckle, but, on closer inspection, the buckle is installed backwards from the RN's product. Talbot reports "After using the load strap , I'm convinced that I am going to re-sew the LR bonnet assembly to match. The cargo strap pulls easily ,hold REAL tight, will not "pop" open, and releases easily. Has the benifts of a quick pull tiedown , and nearly the tension ability of a ratchet tiedown.. I hate to have paid $50. for a LR strap assy that doesnt work."
