Rebuilding the air forces of Midway
I had long been interested in the battle and its place in the Pacific War. My interest initially focused on the aircraft involved, following on my hobby of model aircraft making, so I decide to make a small series consisting (as I then thought) of the 6-8 main types of American and Japanese aircraft involved, at 1/72nd scale. As I tracked down the first few kits I started some serious research on the subject with the result that some years and twenty kits later I am within one kit of completion of the collection. I have of course not made up any of the models, the journey having become more interesting than the arrival.
The missing kit is one of the Vought SB2U Vindicator. I have been told that a vacuum formed kit of it was produced some years ago by one of the smaller American firms, but I have not seen it here. - Any information in this regard would be appreciated. - Ralph Brading
--Aleutian Islands Campaign
I am doing a battle analysis on the Aleutian Island Campaign. Specifically, I am looking for how logistics played a key role in this battle. This information is for a U.S. Army Course I am presently taking. Thanks for your time. - Lieutenant Michael Arnold
--Photos of the Aichi Suisei D4Y1-C on Soryu?
I'm trying to find any photos of the Aichi Suisei D4Y1-C reconnaissance planes that were actually aboard the SORYU at Midway. I am looking specifically for camouflage schemes. Almost all Suisei's (Judy) during the war were painted green/light grey with a wavy separation line, but in general, most Midway aircraft were overall grey w/ black cowlings. Anybody, especially in Japan, have any photos/references? - Craig Burke
--Location of CV-5 USS Yorktown
I have been searching the waters around Midway for the USS Yorktown CV5. I have been told the carrier is visible from the surface and is approximately 93 NE of Eastern Island. Does anybody have any information on her exact location. - John Bone - http://www.midwaysf.com/
--Carrier Air Group personnel information
I am looking for a list of pilots/crewmen of carrier air groups. I do have partial lists but not completed. I would like to exchange data. - Manuel Gil

--Japanese Carrier Aircraft Camouflage and Markings
I'm a Battle of Midway and Coral Sea enthusiast inquiring about information concerning the camouflage and markings of Japanese aircraft. Could you tell me, if possible, what the camouflage and marking schemes were for planes of the First (Akagi and Kaga), Second (Soryu and Hiryu), and Fifth (Shokaku and Zuikaku) Carrier Divisions in May and June 1942. This is a long shot, but I'd especially would like to know the camouflage and markings of Tomonaga's Kate at Midway as well as schemes of Shimizaki's Kate, Ema's Val, and Takahashi's Val at Coral Sea. I have an excellent book on the Pearl Harbor attack force, in Japanese, that includes superb color broadsides of many of the Japanese planes that participated in the attack. I want to know if, or how, those camouflage and marking schemes changed between Dec. 1941 and June 1942. Let me know if anything comes to mind. Can you recommend any books? Thank you for your time. - Dan Guernsey
