Library News

8/1/99 - Tickets for the library "Teenie Beanie Babies" raffle are now available at the library. First prize will be a set of 12, 1999 "Teenie Beanie Babies," and second prize will be a set of 4, 1999 "International Bears." Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and all proceeds will be used for the purchase of new children's materials for the library.

The Frank B. Koller Memorial Library began using an automated circulation system on March 15th, 1999, following more than a year of volunteer work in preparation for the new system. In the following 3 months, more than 1250 patrons were added to the automated system. A total of almost 19,000 library materials are now in the automated database, and work continues on the bar-coding of materials and additions to the computer database. The new system has simplified check-in and check-out procedures, made tracking library materials easier, and has allowed more volunteer time to be spent assisting patrons and maintaining the library.

On March 1st, 1999, Teresa Schmidt was hired as a librarian's assistant. She and Janelle Kohl, the head librarian, now each work 20 hours per week to keep the library running smoothly. Pauline Zeber continues to volunteer many hours each month to assist with material purchasing, cataloging and other library tasks. In addition, a cadre of almost 50 volunteers work at the library, performing such tasks as checking materials in and out, bar-coding materials for the automated system, processing new materials and many other tasks.
