10U TOURNAMENT RESULTS
My 10U team was the only team to compete as the Diamond Express during the 1997 season. This was the girls first exposure to tournament ball and they all learned that you have to be ready to play. I think the biggest change for them was playing more than 1 game in a day. We played in 4 tournaments and had 2 practice games and ended the season with 5 wins and 10 losses. Our first tournament was in Clinton, MS and we had a blast!! Even though we did not do well on the diamond the girls saw first hand how competitive tournament ball can be. Our next tournament was in Sterlington, LA and we started out on fire. We lost a heart-breaker in the semi-finals by 1 run. Next we played in the Louisiana 10 & Under State Tournament in Monroe, LA. We played one of the first games Saturday morning and the girls were not up for it. They started out very sluggish...and not as in slugging....We could not get it going until it was too late. We were down 13-1 after the first inning and came up short in the bottom of the last inning 16-12. After dropping to the loser's bracket we were leading our next game 9-5 going into the 4th inning and we just couldn't buy an out. We lost this game 15-10. The state tournament was an exciting atmosphere and the girls and I enjoyed it all. Our last tournament of the 97 season was the Diamond Express Watermelon Classic . Being on our home field was great for the girls and we started with a big win 18-11. We were 2-0 after Friday night and in Saturday mornings game we did not fair so well. We did not want it that morning we lost 25-1. We sure need to start playing as well in the mornings as we do in the evenings. I am very proud of the accomplishments and efforts the girls put into our first year and we are preparing for 12 & Under next year. Also a big thanks for all the parents' and families of the Diamond Express. Without your help and patience in our first year we could not have made the leap into tournament ball such a success. The girls did a great job for our first year and they were even complimented for their sportsmanship by several umpires.
