Gun Pre-season 2000 Well, it's hard to believe, but another year has gone by, and I'm staring at the calendar in amazement --- the personal countdown to this year's regular gun season has whittled down to a number I can count using my fingers. I say regular gun season as the Wisconsin DNR had an early 4-day gun season (antlerless). According published reports, about 67,000 deer were harvested during that 4-day hunt. The warm weather also allowed for younger, prospective hunters to get a feel of hunting with their parents, without enduring those cooler, late November temperatures.
Reports are that the deer are plentiful throughout the state. Even in the Great White North.
I didn't go hunting in the early season because:
1) No time.
2) There is an unwritten rule that the Sure Shot Lodge is buck-only. Real Men Shoot bucks! (You know... Sure Shot Lodge - where men are men, and the deer are scared. Yada Yada Yada...)
3) Duhh... why do you think it's called a buck pole?!
4) The Lodge was not ready for hunters yet. We're working on a new prized possession for this year - The Sure Shot Sauna.
So what's so great about a sauna...
1) We can get rid of our "scent." One of the regular hunters at the camp, "Mad Dog", told me last year that I have a big scent. I decided to be nice and not say anything about his scent glowing in the dark...
2) Indoor plumbing in the sauna building... we can crank up the sauna stove everyday, and have nice warm toilet. Heck, it might be so nice in there, we can probably read a whole article (without worrying about frostbite on our hinders.)
3) We all wanted to prance around the camp nekked, but we didn't have a place to do it.
So now, it's just a matter of waiting...
Waiting for days to travel up North, then
Waiting in my favorite part of the woods, then
Waiting for that candy bar to thaw just a little bit more before I can chew it all the way through, and finally
Waiting for that familiar antlered, white-tail shape to graze into my view of my scope, and POWWW!!
