Edith Head, the most famous Hollywood costume designer who ever lived, and winner of 9 Academy Awards, advised Joyce Abel to "go professional" with her design career. Joyce worked with Edith Head in 1980.
Fulfilling a 25 year dream, Joyce toured Europe and studied in London and Paris in June 1983. Joyce visited boutiques, worked in studios and workrooms and fashion institutes. Among those with whom she studied were Great Britain's #1 Fashion Consultant in the British Isles. In Paris, work experience was with such notables as Pierre Cardin, Hubert de Givenchy, Louis Feraud, Jean Louis Sherrer, Kenzo, Guy Laroche, and Chloe. She has also studied at The Art Institute International.
The experience in Europe gave Joyce a clear reinforcement for the gifts she was given by God. The abilities and skills she had been taught throughout her life and in formal educational surroundings were enhanced in Europe.Joyce's work is especially devoted to elegant evening wear and designs for special occasions for women (by appointment only) and children. She has begun designing her own fabrics as well. Summer study in fabric design, jewelry, figure drawing and watercolor, and other art media is continued each June. Elegant couture designs, coordinated basics as well as TEXAS glitz are all dimensions of her creations. Silks, leathers and wool blends are also accessible. Millinery designs(summer straw/fabric/bridal/form shaped) are a favorite also.
