Annual Meeting

The 1999 A.S./A.P. annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 21,1999 at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the home of Rhea (your Secretary), please call (608) 269-3525 if you need directions.

Declawed Cats

Once again A.S./A.P. had what could have been a very nasty incidence concerning a declawed cat. Vickie was bitten by a cat (usually a very nice guy) who was involved with a spitting argument with another cat. A cat who is declawed almost always bites when he/she feels threatened because they have no other way to defend themselves and they know it! By A.S./A.P. rules that is then a dead cat!

Biting Cats in A.S./A.P.

No one is allowed to adopt a cat that has drawn blood on the chance that it might happen again. Enpoundment or State Laboratory Rabies testing is done on the cat.

All OK

Vickie, who was very wounded "while on duty", is happily doing very well. Her left fore arm is healing very well and the punctures are curing. Deserves an "Atta Girl"!

MDA Thank You

Thank you to all who responded to my request funds to help MDA. We really did do well and any donation was appreciated.   Georgette

Neuter/Spay Clinic

Once again the neuter/spay clinic was very successful. 16 cats were neutered/spayed. All told 67 cats have been neutered or spayed in the last few months by Dr. Esta and A.S./A.P., meaning that 67,000 kittens won't happen.

Yard Sale

Once again the combined A.S./A.P. and St. Clares yard sale was a complete success. Even though we only had the sale for two days this year we made over $600.00. St. Clares netted $327.00 and A.S./A.P. was able to collect over $322.00. Just fantastic and best of all it was able to be done via you good people with the stuff you no longer wanted!

Computer Wizardry

At long last A.S./A.P. has their badly needed computer! A 386 complete Epson has suddenly appeared from an anonymous donor. The computer even has Internet capabilities, how about that! No, this news bulletin is not being created on it, this was done by my computer on a brand new program and you'll have to excuse the fact that I don't know how to work the program, but I'll learn.

New - Used Computer

A.S./A.P. now has a used computer to sell for $50.00. If you are interested please call Joanne at (608) 269-3525. It's nothing fancy, sort of like a glorified word processor, but it works fine.

Memberships

It most definitely is time to renew your membership. Dues are only $10.00 per year. Check your mailing label to see if you were only a member for one year or if longer than that. If you do not renew you cannot vote at the annual meeting and so really can't complain if we do something you don't like. If you don't renew your membership for 1999 you will no longer be receiving the News Bulletin.

Illness in A.S./A.P. Cats

Unfortunately a disease has hit the A.S./A.P. cat shelter. We have lost several kittens and one of their mothers to a disease named Panleukopenia (a glorified way to say Distemper). This has been verified by Dr. Tripp and the Veterinary Pathological Laboratory in Madison.

Due to the onset of the disease, the cat shelter has been shut down for a month. No cat goes out for at least a two week period and no new cats will be accepted for at least three weeks. One extra week has been allowed for the recovery of the caretakers because thirty-three cats is a lot of cats to medicate let alone the personal loss needed to recover from when cats you are caring for die.

Every shelter has to contend with the onset of disease every once and a while, but realizing the realities does not make them any easier to live with.
