A.S./A.P. Adoption Contract

It is the policy of the Associated Society/Animal Protection that any and all adoptions of cats or dogs will be to indoor homes only. Any cat adopted from A.S./A.P. housed within any city's limits is not to be allowed out of doors other than when being transported. If a cat has demonstrated while in A.S./A.P. care that it has in the past been allowed to roam out-of-doors by an owner, the cat may be adopted by a country resident and allowed to go out-of-doors as long as residence is maintained within the home. Canine hunting breeds and accepted northern breeds are allowed to be kept out-of-doors, but only if an acceptable shelter and a pen are provided meeting the standards set by the Monroe County Humane Society.

All animals adopted via A.S./A.P. are required to be maintained in a humane, lawful and healthful manner. All dogs and/or cats adopted from A.S./A.P. will be neutered/ spayed when the animal has reached the age recommended by the adopting owners' veterinarian. All humane inoculations, licensing, and yearly health exams by a certified veterinarian are required as well as any treatments recommended by said veterinarian. This health maintenance is to begin immediately upon adoption of the animal.

Semi-regular inquiries/inspections can be made by A.S./A.P. members concerning any animal adopted via A.S./A.P. If and when an adopter is found negligent of the above stipulations, or is unable to maintain ownership of te animal for any reason, the animal shall be returned to A.S./A.P. or re-adopted through A.S./A.P. direction and approval.
