7th Grade
Seventh grade artists are combining their drawing and design skills into a final work of art. A watercolor “lab” was done, creating textures with salt, rubbing alcohol and saran wrap, to name a few. Using watercolor, oil pastel, pen and ink, ink wash, relief printing, contour line drawing, and mixed media, students will create a plant series. A minimum of three works using different media will be grouped into a creative, finished composition.
8th Grade
Eighth grade artists created handmade books by recycling old book covers with a duct tape binding, and gluing paper they dyed a year ago at Myrick Park onto the covers. These books can be used as journals, sketchbooks, photo albums, etc. For their final unit of the year, students have formed slabs of clay over newspaper or a plastic face form to create clay faces of animals or people. We have discussed clay terms such as score and slip, greenware and bisque, coil and throw. They are painting their ceramics with acrylics.
